ENGLAND v GERMANY; WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

A Look at the History Between England and One of Women's Football's Greatest Teams.
England's women play Germany at the new Wembley Stadium for the first time since it was built. 55,000 tickets have been sold and The FA decided to cap sales for "health and safety" reasons. Had the stadium's full capacity been available, it can be assumed, by the rate of ticket sales, that there would be a capacity crowd for this hugely popular fixture.

England have failed to win against Germany in their last 19 fixtures, losing seventeen.

  • England came through Canada 2015 World Cup European Qualifying Group 6 top, winning all ten games, scoring 52 goals and conceding only one.
  • Germany also topped Group 1 winning all games, scoring 62 and letting in four.
  • Germany are ranked by FIFA 2nd in the world with England seventh.
  • England beat fifth ranked Sweden 4-0 in their last 'home' fixture.
  • England last played in the 10-0 win against Montenegro in September.
  • Germany's last international outing was a 2-1 win over Sweden last month, four days after their 2-0 defeat against France (ranked second in Europe).
  • England have lost only once since their poor Euro2013 showing in Sweden, a Cyprus Cup final defeat to France in March.
Mark Sampson's attacking style of football seems to suit England and this Wembley game should not have a favourite for the win. It is clearly a new era for England and will be aiming for the semi-finals in next year's World Cup as a minimum.
