ENGLAND TO BID TO HOST WORLD CUP

Premier League Chief Richard Scudamore England are among a number of countries expressing interest in hosting the 2019 World Cup. I recently posted about my enquiry to the FA over the North East (specifically the Tees Valley area) potentially hosting a women's international match and/or the FA Women's Cup final. It has emerged that the FA are interested in bidding to host the 2019 World Cup. Which of England's fine stadiums will host matches and will the final be played at Wembley? How will venues be selected? There is no doubt that England does have some great stadiums and some equally great towns and cities. As a proud Brit and a passionate football fan, I would love for England to host more international competitions. As any true Brit, I am pessimistic about our chances. Women's football is the third biggest participation team sport in Britain, coming behind only the men's game and men's cricket. Given it's popularity and comparatively greater su...

Combination and Regional Divisions Round-up (22-12-13)

Only one fixture in the Combination leagues took place yesterday. Middlesbrough hosted Chorley in a top half battle in the final fixture of 2013 in the Northern League. Middlesbrough had been on a nine game unbeaten run before last week's away defeat to league leaders Mossley Hill after a disappointing performance from the in-form Teessiders. Chorley had suffered two straight defeats at home to Huddersfield Town before a postponement so, had not played last week. Two top sides showing a slight blip in form. It was an entertaining match with good football from both sides. The game had drama, pace, passion and goals, a sending off and awful weather. the final result was 3-2 in favour of the less fancied Boro. Man City up - Arsenal down?

With players leaving Arsenal and Man City snapping up the best, what does WSL1 hold in 2014? After a third place finish in 2013's WSL, Arsenal seem to be losing all their better players with the likes of Steph Houghton, Kim Little and Ellen White all leaving London. Arsenal's biggest names are moving on to newer pastures as Steph Houghton signs for Man City, Ellen White joins Notts County, Gemma Davison to WSL Champions Liverpool and Scotland international Kim Little leaves for Seattle Reign. The club has announced youth players signing new contracts and the retention of one of their biggest stars and one of England's brightest talent's Jordan Nobbs. But can Shelly Kerr really regain Arsenal's WSL crown having only signed England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain from Bristol so far? Newcomers, Man City have been very busy signing talented players from everywhere. They've snatched up Everton's England duo of Jill Scott and Toni Duggan as well as Arsen...
